6-Hour Shutdown: Mumbai Airport to Close on October 17

Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has announced that flight operations at Mumbai Airport will be suspended for six hours on October 17 to facilitate post-monsoon maintenance on two cross runways. This temporary closure is part of the airport’s annual preventive maintenance schedule and a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months prior.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has announced that the cross runways, RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32, will be temporarily closed for maintenance on October 17, 2024, from 11 AM to 5 PM. This closure is part of the airport’s comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan.

The statement mentioned that flight schedules had been meticulously coordinated in advance, in partnership with key stakeholders, to guarantee uninterrupted operations and a successful implementation of the post-monsoon runway maintenance.

The primary purpose of the planned closure is to undertake essential repair and maintenance activities to ensure that the airport’s infrastructure meets international standards. This annual post-monsoon runway maintenance is one of a series of activities carefully executed to maintain operational continuity and passenger safety, reflecting the airport’s unwavering commitment to safety.
