American Airlines Expands Reach: Delaware Joins Network, Covering All 50 States
American Airlines has expanded its reach to cover the entire United States. The Fort Worth-based carrier has added Wilmington, Delaware, to its network, making it the only airline to serve all 50 states. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for American, as it hasn’t been achieved by another carrier in nearly two decades.
However, the carrier’s ambitious goal will require a unique approach. While aircraft will serve the majority of states, American will supplement its network with a ground transportation service. Starting in October, a bus route will connect Philadelphia to Wilmington, Delaware, bridging the gap in the airline’s coverage. This innovative solution demonstrates American’s dedication to offering seamless travel experiences throughout the United States.
American Airlines Achieves Nationwide Coverage: Serves All 50 States
American Airlines has further strengthened its presence in the Northeast by introducing a new bus route between Philadelphia International Airport and Wilmington, Delaware. The airline has partnered with The Landline Company to provide this service, expanding on their existing collaboration. This marks the second new route launched in 2024, joining other routes connecting PHL to Allentown, Atlantic City, Lancaster, Scranton, and Wilmington. Travelers can choose from six daily departures between PHL and Wilmington Airport, with the first service from Wilmington departing at 6:45 AM.

The bus service will provide passengers with amenities comparable to those found on aircraft. Each seat will be equipped with power outlets for charging electronic devices, and onboard Wi-Fi will allow passengers to stay connected during their journey. Additionally, the bus service will offer standard baggage handling procedures, ensuring a seamless travel experience.
One of the distinctive features of the bus service is that passengers do not need to go through security screening upon arrival at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The bus itself is highly secure, comparable to an aircraft, and security checks are conducted in Wilmington. This streamlined process allows the bus to access the airport ramp directly and drop passengers off at the airside, eliminating the need for additional security procedures.
