Stage- 1 Airline Recruitment: Application Process & Basic Requirements

Airlines regularly open hiring for fresh CPL holders and type-rated pilots. The first step is to complete your application form and submit the proper documents carefully so your application and documents get easily verified and you get successfully enrolled in the recruitment process. Let’s check what documents are generally required.

  • Current Indian CPL
  • Instrument Rating (IR License)
  • Valid Indian RT license or COP
  • English Language Proficiency (ELP) Certificate
  • Valid Class 1 Medical Assessment
For Type-Rated Pilots

All of the above, including-

  • Aircraft Type Rating Endorsement on License
  • Last Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC)
  • Valid Pilot Logbook entries verifying flying hours

Technical expectations and simulator checks will be different for type-rated pilots compared to freshers, but the core selection stages—ADAPT test, Group Discussion and Panel interviews—follow a nearly identical structure.

Airline Preparatory Classes are structured to prepare both non-type-rated CPL freshers and type-rated pilots. These classes are conducted by airline captains who have extensive operational and training experience across major commercial fleets, including Airbus (A320/A350), Boeing (B737/B777/B787), and ATR aircraft. airline preparatory classes are designed to match the exact technical depth and operational standards required for airline selection.

Note for Foreign License Holders:

If you are a foreign-trained pilot who has submitted documents for license conversion, but your Indian CPL has not been issued yet, you can still apply by submitting the DGCA official acknowledgment receipt of your document submission for CPL conversion.

Once your application is successfully accepted by the airline, you will receive an official invitation email for the written exam, with instructions and schedule.

Airline Written Exam

Generally, airline written exams are conducted 2 to 3 weeks after application, Written exams are based on the DGCA CPL syllabus mostly—subjects you studied during your DGCA CPL exams—but airline entrance tests go much deeper. It include operational, real-world topics, and require advanced aircraft system-related knowledge. Because of this increased depth, clearing the exam requires strategic preparation through experienced airline recruitment professionals who know the current syllabus, question patterns, and operational topics asked during the written exam.

Our Systematic Framework to Clear the Airline Written Exam
  • Customized Batches for CPL Freshers & Type-Rated Pilots

We run batches for non-type-rated CPL freshers covering CPL subjects, as well as separate groups for type-rated pilots targeting Airbus, Boeing, or ATR fleet exams. Every batch is trained by experienced airline pilot with direct expertise in airline recruitment and selection standards.

  • Topic-Wise Micro-Tests

Once a topic is completed, scheduled tests are conducted based on actual exam standards. These tests focus on high-frequency concepts and topics commonly tested in airline entrance exams, helping you pinpoint the most important key points from the topic.

  • Decadal Exam Pattern Coverage

We analyse the previous recruitment patterns of major airlines, focusing on recurring question structures, syllabus, topics, and high-frequency operational concepts

  • Exam-Timed Mock Test Series

You will take scheduled mock exams designed to match the same format, timing and pressure as real exam. This gives you a feel of actual exam pressure, helping you think faster and build strong confidence for exam day.

How Our Training Facility Looks Like

Stage-2 Airline Recruitment: ADAPT / CAS Pilot Aptitude Screening

Once clearing the stage 1 written exam, candidates will move forward to the 2nd stage of the recruitment process. This will be a computerized pilot aptitude test known as ADAPT, CAS, or COMPASS. This round checks your natural flying ability—focusing on how fast you process information, your spatial awareness, multitasking under pressure, and how well you function as a team with your fellow pilot

Breaking Down What You Will Face in the Computerized Screening

FAST (Flight Aptitude Screening Test)– This will be a 15–20 minute computerized test where you will get specific tasks, like keeping the aircraft on a heading, maintaining a specific altitude, monitoring instruments, and following step-by-step procedures. At the same time, you will receive changing instructions that you must apply instantly. This is to check your multitasking ability

Psychomotor Test- This is to test your hand-eye-foot coordination and motor control. There will be flight scenarios where you need to monitor the instruments and use the rudder pedals and yoke/joystick to handle the situation. The examiner will check how well your hands, eyes, and feet work together, whether you make small and required corrections, or over-control by making a steep turn or excessive climb when only a minor correction was required.

Psychometric Test (Personality & Mindset)-This is a written or multiple-choice personality check round. You will be given scenario-based questions, where you choose options like Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, or Strongly Disagree.

This test evaluates whether you are emotionally stable, if you panic under pressure, and whether you follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or take unnecessary risks. The test asks similar questions in four different ways throughout the exam. If you lie or try to pick what sounds good instead of being honest, the test will detect the contradictions and result may go against expectation.

Spatial Orientation & Reasoning Test– This test will evaluate your brain’s ability to process visual information in 3D space and solve logical problems quickly

Numerical Reasoning– The objective of this round is to test your speed and accuracy in doing mental math and solving practical aviation problems. There will be multiple-choice questions on general math (like multiplication, division, and percentages) and aviation math (such as calculating speed, distance, time, fuel burn rate, and rate of climb or descent).

Working Memory– This round of the test is to determine your ability to capture and remember visual or spoken information and use it properly while performing multiple tasks. You might hear an audio clip of an Air Traffic Controller which may contain information like heading or altitude, runway number, etc., and after performing some tasks, you need to repeat the exact information you heard during the clip.

Basic Physics and Mechanical Reasoning– This test will measure your practical understanding of real-world mechanics and basic physical laws. Pilots must understand how forces work on an object. Its content includes weight and balance, aerodynamics, and system pressure.

Verbal Reasoning & English Proficiency– Pilots must follow a lot of SOPs and complex flight manuals. Reading accurately without making assumptions or guessing while performing multiple tasks in the aircraft is the primary goal of this test. In this test, you will be evaluated on your ability to quickly read, understand, and apply written rules and operational instructions.

How Our Airline Preparatory Classes Prepare You to Clear the ADAPT Assessment

Your airline written exam preparation can be done online from anywhere, but for clearing the ADAPT test and flight simulator, you need simulator and ADAPT by Symbiotics software practice.

You need to visit our training center in Delhi for ADAPT preparation. You get direct access to our specialized software and flight simulator setup to practice the multitasking, psychomotor, spatial, and mental math game modules—designed to match the latest airline selection standards. Best of all, there are unlimited daily practice sessions—you can attend as much as you want to train yourself, until you build enough confidence to clear your exam on the first attempt.

Stage-3 Airline Recruitment: Group Discussion

Once you successfully clear the ADAPT/CAS assessment, the airline recruitment process generally moves to the next stage, “Group Discussion and team building exercise.”

The group discussion assessment is designed to test your communication skills, how well you handle different points of view on the same topic, and how you contribute as part of a team.

The exact format of the Group Discussion (GD) may vary from airline to airline. however, the purpose of the test and the goal remain similar. lets check how it goes-

Once the group discussion round begins, the examiners divide the candidates into smaller groups and give them a topic or situation. Each group receives instructions to talk in favour of the topic or against it. Based on these instructions, groups present their point of view while examiners observe each candidate’s response. Based on your contribution to the discussion, examiners evaluate your confidence, communication, listening skills, teamwork, and ability to handle opposing views. The main goal is not simply to prove your point correct, but to evaluate how professionally and logically you present your point of view.

How We Prepare You for the Group Discussion Round-

Candidates have scheduled mock GD tests, just like the real GD round. These mock GD tests are supervised by senior airline HR panellists who have extensive experience conducting recruitment rounds for Indian airlines . They give you direct, practical guidance on what you need to improve to clear the real GD round with confidence.

  • Trained by Senior Airline HR Panellists: Our mock GD tests are supervised and conducted by experienced airline HR panellists who has experience to run GD selection rounds for Indian airlines.

  • Personalized Feedback & Advice: Following every mock test, instructors offer one-on-one personal guidance on your communication, body language, and listening skills after every session.

Stage-4 of Airline Recruitment: The Airline Pilot Interview

The final airline interview is conducted by a panel that includes Technical Panellists (Check Captains), HR Managers, and in some cases, Psychologists or Aviation Safety Specialists. they examine your technical knowledge, personality, confidence, communication skills, background, and overall cultural fit to the organisation.

Technical questions are designed to test your core aviation knowledge and operational understanding, while HR and other panellists examine your professional conduct and situational thinking.

How We Prepare You for the Final Interview=

  • Early Mock interview Practice: Our mock interview preparation begins the moment you start preparing for written exams. By the time your final interview arrives, you will have completed enough mock rounds to build the required skills and confidence to clear the selection.
